Surviving Killing Fields Survivor Nal Oum
a survivor of the Cambodian genocide. At a time when anyone with a high school education was targeted for extermination by the ruling communist regime, he was deputy director of the national hospital in Phnom Penh and became one of the few medical doctors to survive Cambodia's notorious Killing Fields.

Irena Sendler: The Polish woman who saved 2,500 Jewish children
During the Holocaust, she was the driving force behind a critical operation, saving the lives of 2,500 Jewish children by smuggling them out of the Warsaw Ghetto and providing them with false identity papers. She did it at great risk to her life. After the war, she kept her deed a secret. For decades. Irena Sendler. On her birthday, we remember the bravery of this Polish-Catholic woman.

Ruby Bridges Fought Racism at 6 Years Old

At 6 years old, Ruby Bridges went to school in the protection of U.S. Marshals due to threats from white families who didn't want a Black child attending school with their children. her attending a formerly all white elementary school. Ostracized by teachers & peers, Ruby soon realized she was the target of their hate simply for being born Black. Today, she speaks on the experience & the continued fight against anti-Black racism in America.

On October 13, 1972, a plane carrying a rugby team from Uruguay, along with some of their friends and family and crew, was flying from Uruguay to Chile when it crashed in the peaks of the Andes mountain ranges. The survivors had only a bottle of rum and a few snacks to sustain them. After nine days, they resorted to eating the dead to stay alive.

What was the motivation to live, one of the survivors was asked. “To see my fathers smiling face when he would see me again!”
